Resume Rules to Follow in 2023 and Beyond

Know that the “one page” limit does not apply if you have 5+ years experience.

Tailor your resume to each position and company.  Be sure to use keywords!  Your resume should read like the job description.

Don’t bother with an objective.  Objectives are out!  Use branding statements instead.  Your branding statement will communicate who “you” are in the workplace.  Your brand reflects your professional reputation (what you are known for).

Unless you are a recent graduate, please do not list college or high school activities.

Forget the fancy format.  Standard resume format is preferable.  Your resume will be added to an Applicant Tracking System (ATS).  These systems do not like all of the fancy stuff (pictures, graphics, unusual fonts and colors).  Stick to a standard resume format that is easy to read and understand.
